COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

with Milenko Matanovic
Sunday 7 August 1pm – 4.30pm
@ ALL GOODS Whau Arts Space
RSVP

Gail.fotheringham@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
avondalecommunityaction@gmail.com

Milenko Matanovic specialises in working alongside communities to create really good public spaces and in moving from ideas to action. In this workshop he will share practical tools and approaches for Avondale locals to work together and have meaningful and real influence over the shape of the future town centre civic space.
In the courageous, complex business of community collaboration, we all have the power to boost as well as derail the process.
Join this workshop and learn how to establish clear roles and responsibilities, keep projects on track, defend against naysayers, and create the conditions for collective creativity.
Milenko’s Vision – the future for town centres:
“The community’s gathering place is the heart for communal identity, welcome, and social rejuvenation. Every neighbourhood will build such a space together that captures their collective talents, their aspirations and their appreciation of the many community connections.”

Te Tuhi is proud to host the annual Top Art exhibition (the top art portolios of Years 12 and 13) and new series of free public evening talks. Each of the four evening talks will include a range of art practitioners, industry professionals, art groups and collectives and gallery curators giving audiences a glimpse into the different work places and career paths that exist in the creative industry.

The series of free evening talks will explore what it is like thinking, making, studying and working in the art world. From working individually to collective, commercial to community, digital to technical, audiences will have an opportunity to get glimpse into the different work places and career paths that exist in the creative industry.

The talks begin at 6pm and are followed by an opportunity for questions at 7pm.

Spaces are limited so please RSVP by emailing info@tetuhi.org.nz or by calling 09 577 0138.

We’re going to open and run a neighbourhood arts space in Avondale, Auckland, that will be a hub for all sorts of excellent creative activities from bonsai through to painting through to karaoke.

Building on the success of a range of recent art projects in the area, this will be a space that can host exhibitions, performances, workshops, talks, screenings, meetings, parties, a children’s gallery, and everything else in between. We’re working hard to make as many of these as possible free for people to take part in.

We’ve been given an amazing (we know that’s an overused word, but really it is) opportunity to take on the lease on a key building in the Avondale main street. Thanks to the support of a local businessman, we’ve been given a greatly reduced rent which means this is possible.

We all live around the area, and like it here, and think that a space like this will be a real asset to the area. We’re keen to have a space where flash award-winning artists feel just as home as the seven year old that’s never seen a real painting before, and our previous projects have all been a part of trying to embed interesting artistic projects within the wider community.

Taking a lease on a space is a natural extension of our previous projects; having a “home” means that we can take on even more projects and provide more opportunities for the local community to do cool things.
